Rescue Me ID: 17-06-23-00361Toby (male)

Shih Tzu Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Toby! Toby was found as a stray in Del Rio, TX. Toby is available for adoption in Del Rio, San Antonio, and anywhere in between. We think he could be a Shih Tzu/ Chihuahua mix. He is about 10 pounds and 1-2 years old. He is fully vetted (neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, up to date on flea/tick and heartworm preventatives). Toby is a super sweet dog who loves people. He is medium energy- he can get extremely excited, but he also enjoys laying around and relaxing. Toby has some separation anxiety, so he would do best in a home where someone is home a good bit. Toby does well with most other dogs. He does better with calmer dogs who ... (Read More)play gently. Because of his small size, he is intimidated by larger/rough-playing dogs. Toby is being fostered with two other dogs (20 and 30 pounds). He would also be fine as an only dog- he loves people more than anything. Toby has not been cat tested. Like many tiny dogs, Toby has been know to bite if he feels threatened. For this reason, we will not place him in a home with small children. This is for the safety of Toby and the children. Toby does not appreciate rough handling. No children under 10 please. ***PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING ADOPTION STIPULATIONS BEFORE CONTACTING ME*** Adoption Stipulations: - No young children. Ages 10+ only. - If you rent your home, you must be able to provide proof that you are allowed to have a dog. - If your family already has pets, they must be fully vetted (spayed/neutered, vaccinated, etc.), and you must be able to provide proof. - We require a home visit, and all family members must be present during the home visit. Shih Tzu    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Rocky has a bite history; we rescued him from a kill shelter. He was surrendered because he bit a child (which we just recently found out about). While in the shelter - he bit a shelter worker and was placed in quarantine for 10 days. He did fine. He was happy and playful. When we got him to our house - he was also happy and playful - got along with the other dogs and was doing great. After being here for about a week or two - he got into a scuffle with an 80-pound hound dog. Rocky's eye was injured and had to be removed. He healed and was adopted and for reasons unknown - he bit that adopter and he was returned to us. We spoke to a ... (Read More)trainer and she believed it was because that adopter approached Rocky from his blind side. We had him back here for about a week and at one point - I was rounding up all the dogs and putting them in their crates for naptime - Rocky was eating but I thought he was finished so I approached him to pick him up to put him in his crate. He bit me. We again spoke with a trainer. She believed my bite was due to resource guarding (food). We had him another week or so. He did great. Content - good-natured - sweet... Again, he was adopted along with another of our dogs; those adopters had Rocky about a month. Again - for reasons unknown - he bit and was returned - the two times he bit an adopter they both reported they were just hanging out with Rocky - either on a couch or in bed watching TV - relaxing. They were petting him. He bit. We are again working with a trainer to determine what it is that causes this. 99% of the time - he is great. We're not sure if he just gets overwhelmed at too much petting or if there's a part of his body that - when touched - causes him pain or sensitivity - we're not exactly sure at this point - he's been groomed several times and has done fine - he's also been checked by a vet so we rather doubt the latter. He goes to our adoption events. People walk him and interact with him. there have been no issues but again - we are providing this information about him in the spirit of full disclosure - if you are interested in him - we can talk further and or you can come meet him - we believe that with some training to find out his trigger points - he will be just fine. He's playful, devoted, intelligent, assertive, friendly, energetic, protective and spirited, he's about 3 years old and weighs about 11 lbs, he's fully vetted and healthy, he's not much of a barker unless he's playing, or upset about something - we don't recommend him being adopted into a family with children younger than 11 - he's HW- (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-06-01-00429Buddy (male)

Shih Tzu Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, my name is Buddy. My time was up when I was rescued. I had been at the shelter for almost four months! My foster mom thought I was young and playful when she saved me, but my story is actually a little different. I am a scruffy old guy! I think I'm about 10, but given the right home I have lots left to give. Like most old guys you may know I am a little hard of hearing and don't see very well. Apparently they don't make doggie dentures, so the bottom teeth I have missing can't really be replaced. My foster mom soaks some dry food in water and adds in some wet food and I can eat it up just fine. My favorite thing to do is find the most ... (Read More)comfortable napping spot in the house and stay out of trouble. I am mostly potty trained as long as you catch my attention (hard of hearing and seeing, remember?), and foster mom crates me at night. I like having my own space at. I get along with dogs and cats as long as they aren't too rough or overbearing with me. My ideal home is going to be with adults, people who are going to handle me with care. As it turns out, hip pain come with old age too. If you have a lazy cat or another oldie like me, I think you will be my perfect family! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-12-00262Holmes (male)

Shih Tzu Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, my name is Holmes! My foster mom says I'm the perfect snuggle bug! I'm a little bit older of a dog, so nap time is my favorite time of the day. You see, I was lost on the streets and the pound picked me up. A nice lady who volunteers at the pound took me for a grooming so I could see much better! After that, I was resc ued by K-9 Angels and here I am! I sleep quietly on the floor on a nice fluffy blanket at night, but trust me, I would much rather be sleeping in the bed with my foster family! I do stay in the crate during the day while my foster family works and I bark to let them know not to leave me. I settle down after a while, but ... (Read More)would do best with a family who owns a home so I don't bother any neighbors in a place such as an apartment complex. Other than to beg them not to go, I don't bark at all'|not even at the neighbor's dog when my foster sister goes crazy barking at them! I'd really rather just roll on some clean grass in the sun! Although I'm probably just laying here sleeping at the adoption center (let's be honest, there's not much to do), I promise I'm full of life once I get settled in my home. I have all the love in the world to give and sure do think I deserve a loving home for the rest of my little doggie life. Don't forget, I LOVE having my chest and belly rubbed and I'll let you do that all day if you'd like! If you're looking for a gentle dog to add to your family, then look no further! I'm ready to find my furever home and I'm hoping it's with you! Holmes is a Male Shih Tzu that we estimate to be born around May 1, 2010. (Read More)exam at Banfield - grooming coupons - over $400 of coupons/savings - and MUCH MORE! We have a two-step adoption process. First, you submit an application, which is presented to our Board for approval or rejection. If approved, a home check is done, and if that passes - you adopt which includes a 1-week trial period, if - for any reason during that first week, the adoption is not working out, you can return the dog for a full refund of your adoption fee. ))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))PS - WE NEED FOSTER HOMES FOR ANIMALS! Fosters are the backbone of animal rescue. In most EVERY shelter - in most EVERY county - in most EVERY city - animals r being euthanized (KILLED) daily due to overcrowding - dog - cat - large - small - male - female - puppy - kitten - old - young. We cannot save them without foster homes. APPROXIMATELY ONE OUT OF THREE ANIMALS THAT ENTER A SHELTER IS EUTHANIZED. These healthy sweet pets would have made great companions. Don't know what fostering is? Briefly - it is babysitting an animal until it is adopted. FOSTERING IS FREE TO DO! Most rescues cover all expenses for fosters, and anything they do not cover is tax-deductible. If u cannot foster - please ask your friends and family to. If u want more information - Google 'animal fostering.' I'm begging - it's only temporary but lives can't be saved unless people step up - PLEASE - shelters are overflowing - when you foster one animal - you save two lives - the one you foster and the one that gets his/her space in the shelter. If you can/will foster - let me know, I thank you - and the animals thank you! PS - Have you ever dreamed of helping a rescue but don't have the time, space, or just plain don't know what to do? At your pet limit? Allergic? Can't have pets where you live? Well - how about becoming a VIRTUAL FOSTER... You can choose a minimum amount of $10 a month to 'virtually' foster a homeless animal of your choice (of course, a larger sum would be happily accepted and appreciated). What does Virtual Foster mean? Our foster fur babies typically have many veterinary bills, as this is the nature of being rescued. There are also other expenses related to the ongoing care and rehab of fosters. As a Virtual Foster, your donation will go towards the vetting - medical care, and general care of the animal you have chosen. Your donation will go a LONG way in ensuring a foster dog receives the needed care and attention! In return for your kind donation, you will receive a periodic update on the progress of your foster. Once your foster is adopted, you will be notified so that you can choose another animal to virtually foster. If you genuinely cannot adopt or foster, there are still other ways to help. Sponsor an adoption or medical treatment. Volunteer your time - drive for transports, rescue groups always need dogs transported from one place to the next. Donate money, our rescue is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit, all donations are tax deductible. Educate - spread the word about the need for fosters. Sign up for notifications from your local rescue group or shelter, and share the animals in need on social media, there are so many ways to help - thank you, please share this post (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-01-13-00097Robbie (male)

Shih Tzu Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi everyone! I'm Robbie! I am close to two years old and so much fun! I know I may bark when you come up, but don't let that fool you; I am just a super friendly rambunctious puppy! I love to play with toys, chase balls, and play with my foster sisters! My smaller foster sister use to be scared of me, but I won her over with my ch arm and great looks! We're friends now! Besides my two foster sisters, there's something called a 'kitty' that I got to meet. She stays in the back of the house where us dogs aren't allowed to go, but they let me go back there to meet her. I just walked up to her, sniffed and walked away. So maybe I wouldn't be too ... (Read More)bad around those, as long as they didn't try to run away from me. I'd love to have a family with other dogs to play with for sure though! I love to play with anyone or thing, but I also like to cuddle up beside you or at your feet and nap. But I do not like the bottom of my feet rubbed. My foster parents say I am a very sweet, attentive little man! I also got a bath this week and took it like a champ. I didn't try to jump out of the bathtub or anything. I sleep in my crate at night without any complaints, but in the morning I'm ready to play! My foster parents think my fuzzy hair makes me look like Einstein! Not only do I look like him, I'm smart like him too! I am potty trained and know to go to the door when I need out. I'm even learning the words 'outside' and 'potty' so you can ask me. I know 'sit' and 'dance' (that's why they call me Tiny Dancer) and am learning 'stay' and 'leave it.' I also know 'Get the ball' (when I want to) and 'Shh,' since I really like to talk a lot. I am super treat-motivated. You can probably teach me a lot of fun tricks with a little effort and a lot of treats! I just need someone who likes an active playful dog and is willing to work with me. I will love you forever! Please choose me to be your dog; I have so much love to give and can't wait to shower you with kisses! Robbie is a Male Miniature Schnauzer / Shih Tzu Mix that we estimate to be born around July 28, 2015. PUPPIES: Young puppies that have not had their second round of puppy shots will not be at the Adoption Center for our weekend adoption events. If you are interested in adopting a puppy, please fill out an application on our website http://www.k-9angelsrescue.org/k9_angels_rescue_application_to_adopt.html. If your application is approved, a meeting can be arranged. Also, we only adopt young puppies locally due to the 4 month timeframe it takes to get them fully vetted and altered. OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS: We do allow out-of-state adoptions for dogs, however, the adopter MUST come to Houston to get the dog and take the dog home with them. We do not allow our dogs to be shipped. However, we only adopt young puppies locally, due to the 4 month timeframe it takes to get them fully vetted and altered. SPAY/NEUTER: As we believe proper healthcare of one's pet is a requirement of good ownership K-9 Angels Rescue only adopts out dogs that have been fully vetted. If the dog being adopted is not already altered at the time of their adoption, the dog will be altered within 2 weeks of adoption at our vet at our cost, with the exception of puppies which will be altered as soon as the puppy is ready. NOTE: All dogs are officially the property of K-9 Angels Rescue until they are altered by our veterinarian. Please LIKE and share our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/k9angelsrescue. Thank you! Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed

Hi, my name is Diamond and I have been told that I am adorable and very sweet. I bet you will think so too if you come to meet me. I am a pretty typical puppy and my favorite thing is to play and wrestle all day. I am a little timid when I first meet new people but it doesn't take me very long to warm up and give kisses. And I LOVE to cuddle!! I am doing pretty good with my potty training but I am not perfect at it because I still have accidents if I am busy playing and forget. I think that is where the love and patience thing comes in. Diamond is available for adoption with Saving Grace Dog Rescue of San Antonio. The adoption fee is ... (Read More)$150.00. An adoption application, home visit and adoption contract are all required. All dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations appropriate for their age, microchipped, and wormed for internal and external parasites. Shih-Tzus are gentle and do fine with children who are taught to respect the dogs. Shih-Tzus bark to announce people approaching their homes.
