Rescue Me ID: 15-08-17-00752Maggie (female)

Shih Tzu    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Date into Rescue: 07/01/2015 Reason for being in rescue: found as stray Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? not that we know of Weight: about 12 lbs Height: est 12' Adoption Fee: $270 Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? A quiet home, one that understands shih tzu's and one that will bring out the best in her What is my personality like? Very quiet, very subdued. We don't know what happened to her but it was sad. Please help us make her happy again. Maggie acts like an old dog but her body is that of a younger dog. She is an old soul. How I act when I first meet new people: She ... (Read More)accepts everyone easily but isn't all over you. She waits for you to recognize that she is a diamond in the rough. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: Est 4 years to 6 years and this is purely a guess, her teeth look good and her eyes are not cloudy like an old dog Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.     Sugar and his siblings Taxi and Junior came to our rescue with a sad story. For the first decade of Sugar's life, he lived a wonderful life for a dog. He was a pampered pooch, got lots of attention, was well loved and groomed. He and his siblings never knew what it was like to be cold, wet or uncomfortable. They saw the vet every year and were kept healthy and happy Then Sugar's owner met a man who didn't like dogs. He made her put her dogs outside in a kennel, and last year Sugar and his sister and brother spent their first winter outdoors, in temperatures that sometimes dipped into the low teens. His coat became filthy and matted, he had ... (Read More)fleas, and no one paid attention to him anymore. If that wasn't bad enough, the man that doesn't like dogs retired and decided he wanted to travel. He offered Sugar's owner a choice -- she could travel with him, or stay home with her dogs. She chose him. This man contacted Dot's Place and told us if we didn't take the dogs they would be going to the local kill shelter. We went and picked up Sugar and his brother and sister, took them to the vet for the first time in over three years, got Sugar and his brother neutered, up to date on shots, groomed, and now they are clean, warm and safe. What they don't have though is a home of their own. Sugar is well behaved, sweet, rides in the car well, is crate trained, paper trained and friendly to other dogs, cats and children. He obeys commands and I walk him in the yard without a leash with no worries. This TINY little dog is just like his name -- one of the sweetest dogs I've ever met. He's also heartworm negative. Sugar is neutered and up to date on shots and heartworm treatment, good with cats and other dogs (after an appropriate introduction period), and ready to find his new home. His adoption fee is $150. (Read More)$200 vet care credit at the hospital associated with our rescue. Apply to foster or adopt at www.crossroadsanimalrescue.org. Most of our pets are obtained from animal control and therefore we are not certain of their breed or breed mix. We list breed mixes that they most resemble or that their former owners said they were. However, we don't make any guarantees about breed - it is a best guess! Our adoption fees include the spay/neuter surgery, deworming, vet exam, and up to date vaccines. It also includes microchipping as well as heartworm testing or feline leukemia testing. If you cannot adopt but would like to help, consider sponsoring a pet by donating through the "sponsor a pet" button. This money will help us provide for this pet and others - even a small donation goes a long way towards helping us save more pets! Please email or call us at (864)972-9994 for more information. This phone number will reach Crossroads Animal Hospital, which is the home of CARE. During business hours, a receptionist will be able to speak with you regarding our adoptable pets. After business hours, the only way to contact CARE is via email. Our puppies and kittens are also eligibile for 25% off the rest of the vaccines in their puppy/kitten vaccination series at Crossroads Animal Hospital. Most adult pets are spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Puppies and kittens may have the surgery before adoption or we may have new owners return later for the surgery. For more information about CARE and to see our adoption application, go to our website, www.crossroadsanimalrescue.org To meet one of our adoptable pets or to start the adoption process, please access the adoption application on our website, www.crossroadsanimalrescue.org and email it to drkathyjordan@yahoo.com. We will then approve you (sending in the application does not obligate you to adopt) and we can set up a time for you to meet one or more of our pets. You can then pay the adoption fee and offiicially adopt after meeting your new family member. Alternatively, you can do the adoption over the phone before meeting your new pet. The benefit to this is that we will hold the pet for you. However, the adoption fee is non-refundable if you changed your mind after adopting over the phone. (Less)
