Shih Tzu    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Blind, Deaf

Little lost Carmine. Lost because his owner passed away leaving him alone and afraid. He pines for his elderly master ( we believe it was a man), and looks for him in every person that visits. He is 12 years old, blind in one eye and has limited sight and hearing. He would do well with a person much like himself that can take things slow and just enjoy each others company. Carmine goes out if taken out, or uses paper/ wee wee pads. OK with other elderly dogs, not crazy about cats ( avoids them) but would rather be the only pet. An adorable fellow in need of a home. Located in Hopewell Junction, NY,Carmine's fee is a donation to ... (Read More)help other dogs in need. Contact Leslie at 845-227-9568 or lelmlinger@aol.com (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-06-09-00093Ozzy (male)

Shih Tzu    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Ozzy loves to go for rides in/on anything: car, ATV, golf cart, kayak, even paddleboard! He lays right down on the kayak/paddleboard! He loves to go for walks and pulls a little on his lead because he is so excited. He plays fetch even! 'get your squeaker' is the signal. He will steel your shoes and loves the game of 'That's my shoe!', because that is his signal to run around the house. He is used to being on a runner and will run if he gets out. He is fast. He can be tricked by putting a long lead on him and he will walk loose around the yard with you, keeping you company while you are gardening. He has a high startle reflex and is ... (Read More)possessive of his food, so he cannot be in a home with young children that do not understand this. A home with an active adult(s) would be best for him. He doesn't really like to be picked up, but sometimes will tolerate being lifted to your lap. He loves to sit next to you on the couch, or ON you, if you are laying down. He has been known to 'guard' whomever he is laying on. He views his kennel as his safe area and when he goes there, it means he wants to be left alone. He will constantly try to walk in the door first and sit higher than you on the couch, but this must be corrected, as he is somewhat dominant. He knows better, just tries to get away with it. He is mostly low key during the day, sleeping on a cool floor in the summer or next to the woodstove in the winter, when not in his kennel. He will come to you when he wants to go outside. When he comes in is when he usually wants to play fetch. Great companion dog, and great in public on walks, but needs to be monitored around unpredictable situations, like with children. He loves going to the groomer and is okay with baths by his person. In the picture, he stayed by this cat, who was very ill. He would love to be someone's constant companion. (Less)

Shih Tzu Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current

Little Ricky is an awesome guy. He is some kind of mix of maltese and shih tzu or similar breeds most likely all hair and not fur which would work for those looking for a non shedding type breed. Little Ricky is great with housebreaking and is a friendly little guy with both dogs and people, children included. He had skin issues which have been treated and he is doing great. He was just in poor overall health apparently and quality care has done wonders for him. Little Ricky likes to play and he would do best with active dogs. He would most likely be too active for an older dog unless the dog is tolerant of being bothered to play. ... (Read More)If you have an active smaller dog then Little Ricky is the best playmate you could find. Microchipped, up to date on vaccines, neutered and all ready for a new home. Must be over 21 and must live within reasonable distance of Long Island to be home checked. Write to newbeginningresq@aol.com for further information. (Less)

Shih Tzu    Age: Senior

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Blind

Max is a cute little Shih Tzu -, about 8 years old but acts much younger. Max's foster mom says. Max is an absolute doll! He is housebroken, likes to cuddle and be glued to you. Even though Max is blind but don't let that fool you. Max is not hampered by his lack of vision at all. He is currently in VT in a home with other dogs and a cat and he gets along with all. I would recommend older children as he is startled easily. He does not like to be crated and can be left alone while at work without accidents. Max shines when he gets to run around the yard and on walks. He loves the car. He sleeps in his bed next to my bed. He is vocal when he ... (Read More)wants something, time to eat, attention, and cuddling. He also will let you know when he needs to go out. Who could resist this beautiful face? He is a love bug and already has all the basics down. All of our animals are examined by a veterinarian, given age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, heartworm tested and treated if necessary. Vet references are required and prior to adoption a home inspection will be conducted. Transport options available. Adoption fee applies. If interested go to www.pmarinc.org for an application.
