Rescue Me ID: 14-10-29-00706Ziggy (male)

Shih Tzu Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Ziggy was born about October 22, 2011 and weighs about 15 lbs. He is one incredibly gorgeous little boy. Every mill dog does best going into a home with another 'normal' dog. A woman that has befriended a group of millers in central New York has promised to see nothing, hear nothing, and say nothing as long as the millers hand dogs over to her once they are through with them instead of killing them. She then distributes the 'used' dogs to rescues and sends many here. This group was only marginal fearful of us, so not too bad. In this load the fur wasn't too bad compared to what we've seen, but the adult dogs had normal mill dog teeth ... (Read More)where you can't see any white at all and when you check the teeth your fingers smell like you've just put them inside a rotting carcass. They will be getting dentals, but a single dental doesn't undo the damage done for so many years and will need to be done on a rather regular basis until the teeth are all gone or the erosion ceases from your good care. We will be working on house training, but surely you will have work to do in this area and we have wonderful notes to help you. These are notes that have had the best success with mill dogs. So, if I've not deterred you by this, brutally honest, depressing description by now and you still feel that you want to help one of these dogs and experience the magical joy of watching one of them decide they can love a human and become a real dog or as real as they will ever become, go ahead and e mail and ask us to send you our 'Working will Mill Dog Notes' and we will be happy to do so. Adopting one of these dogs is not so much about you as it is about the dog, it is an amazingly unselfish thing to do. You will be rewarded in the long run, but it may take awhile. Special thanks to Nancy Craig-Tundel for donating $50.00 to Joyful Rescues in order to give Ziggy his name! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-10-29-00687Milo (male)

Shih Tzu    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Milo was born about February 16, 2007 and weighs about 15 lbs. He is an adorable, furry, little guy and it's so cute when his hair is grown over his missing eye. He thinks it's funny when we forget his name and call him One Eye, makes him wiggle! Milo does ADORE his humans and would like to be with them as much as possible in his next home. We are told he is uncomfortable around little, noisy, children. He is house trained, good on leash, and loves to go for rides, just loves to be with you. He's doing fine with the other dogs here. Milo 'snuffs' when he has to go potty and we are told he can have a delicate tummy. He seems to be ... (Read More)doing fine here on the Science Diet. He does need his anal glands expressed now and then and his other eye has some dryness so over the counter drops or a bit of ointment once a day will help keep the eye moist. His other eye had no tear production and that is how he lost it. We are not sure where the young couple obtained Milo, but they did a tremendous amount of health care for him. They felt terrible, but had to give him up because of the small children in the home. The vets office was sad to be loosing Milo as a patient, they said he was always the sweetest thing! Milo will be over the top in love with his humans! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-10-25-00385Duster (male)

Shih Tzu    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Duster was born about August 9, 2005 and weighs about 10 lbs. He has had a cage partner his entire life and truly should go to a home with another dog. Actually, every mill dog does best going into a home with another 'normal' dog. The Bichon has what we call 'puppy mill foot' and will ... (Read More)probably need to be treated with antibiotics off and on throughout life. This condition happens when they've stood on wire bottom cages for 24/7 years, upon year, upon years. It tends to happen to the heavier dogs, the lesser weight dogs don't get it so bad - makes sense. In this load the fur wasn't too bad compared to what we've seen, but the adult dogs had normal mill dog teeth where you can't see any white at all and when you check the teeth your fingers smell like you've just put them inside a rotting carcass. They will be getting dentals, but a single dental doesn't undo the damage done for so many years and will need to be done on a rather regular basis until the teeth are all gone or the erosion ceases by your good care. Shih Tzu Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Kusa was born about April 1, 2013 and weighs about 28 lbs. He is just adorable and very fun and sweet, he's the whole package! He came to us from a nearby shelter that was over full and asked us for help. We made room for four and this little guy was one of them. We wondered about his name, googled it and it happens to be the call letters to a news station out of Denver Colorado. He's been wonderful with the other dogs and is going to make someone a wonderful canine companion.

Rescue Me ID: 14-10-13-00723Don-a King Bonadio (female)

Shih Tzu Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

The Bonadio Group, 171 Sully's Trail, Pittsford, NY sponsored the transport that brought 40 dogs north out of a high kill pound in TN. How high kill???? Well, while Katie was busy making the very difficult choices she has to make down there, she accidentally entered the wrong door and there was Emma a healthy, young, medium sized, black girl who was on a table, tail just a wagging not minding that her arm was being shaved, while enjoying all the attention she was getting from a couple of the staff. Little did she realize that the needle that was now 2 inches from her arm was going to stop her heart from beating and her tail would never ... (Read More)wag again. The procedure was STOPPED and Emma was immediately loaded in the truck! We also took George who was next in line because they couldn't afford to treat him and he was painfully thin. We are working on George and hope that it is only worms and we'll be able to make him better. He is one really sweet boy and we love him already. We also took a pretty, really sweet, Cocker named Sammy who has massive ear infections, one eye is turned rather inside out and the other looks odd so he will need some very special vet care, but we have him in the best foster home for the blind and he's happy as can be. There are 37 others with their own stories, but these are the three heart breakers so far. The staff at his shelter do the best they can and truly love these dogs but their resources are incredibly limited. Thank you Bonadio Group, an accounting, business and financial services firm providing audit, tax and business consulting services, for making this trip, which runs about $800.00, possible!!!!! All dogs from the south are heart worm tested, but they cannot be tested until they are about 6 months old. So, if you choose a puppy from this group you must keep that puppy on heart worm 'preventative' at least through it's 7th month just in case it is carrying the larvae. Introducing the Bonadio Seven!!!!! This litter of pups may be the cutest ever!!! We have no idea what Dad was, but Mom is a short haired terrier kind of thing that weighs about 35 lbs. However, six of the pups look very much like wire haired terriers and one of the pups looks a lot like a Shih Tzu. So, Mom's genetics really don't seem to have played much of a part is these little cuties. As for ultimate weight some pups are twice as big as others so I'd have to guess they will be between 15 lbs. and 35 lbs. like Mom, Quincy. Their birth date is approximately June 5, 2014. Special thanks to Mark Forrest Patrick, owner of Tuxedo's K9 Training Camp in Rochester, for donating $50.00 in order to name this adorable girl Don-A King! Yup...because of her hairdo! (Less)
