Rescue Me ID: 15-06-23-00636Lexi (female)
Lexi is a young lady about 2 years old. She is playful and a happy girl who loves to run circles around the trees in the back yard or wrestle with her BFF, Buffy. Lexi adores her humans and thinks her place is next to them on the couch if possible. However, she will find her place to the floor when directed. Lexi is fast and can slip out a door and under your feet before you blink. She was a stray at Animal Control and it is easy to see how she likely got 'lost'! She will need a fenced in yard to keep her safe and to let her express some of her energy. Although she is tiny, she is no wallflower. In fact, she has a mighty big bark for a little dog. She thinks she is a watchdog so she will alert you when she hears noises and guards her yard from passers by. Lexi gets along with everyone including her dog friends. She will try to show her dominance if allowed to do so. Lexi is spayed, up to date with vaccinations, heartworm negative, had a recent dental and is microchipped. If you are interested in adopting her, please email us for an application. We work full time so if you do not hear from us immediately, don't despair, we will get back with you as soon as we can. I am looking for my perfect home within 50 miles of Chicago Illinois Our Adoption Process... Adoption Application Meet and Greet Home visit Adoption Contract Adoption fee SEE MORE PHOTOS AND ALL MY UPDATES UNDER MY PHOTO ALBUM AT https://www.facebook.com/TheFirstStepRescue My name is Mikey and I am an 9-10yr old 15lb male super sweet Lhasa Apso/Shih Tzu Mix. Heartworm Neg/Neutered/Vaccinated/Dental Done/Microchipped. I do have cataracts, the rescue would love to see about correcting this but with minimal funding and other dogs in the rescue that may not be an option. This means is I can see shadows but in the dark have a harder time and may run into things. I also seem to be hard of hearing, and my ears were checked by the vet. None of these things make me not love and enjoy life and I love life just the way I am. My handicaps are why I can not go into a home with no children and I need a home that will approach me slow cause if you scare me I turn like I am going to nip you but I have never bitten anyone. My foster mom says I am sweet and do like my quite time and do love to be in the company of my humans. I am doing very good with my housebreaking but have had a couple of mistakes but my foster mom does have a busy schedule and I may need to go out a little more frequently but I do only piddle on the tile never the carpet, a little more work and I can be perfect. I do great with the other dogs and cats in the home and never show aggression towards them but I do seem to be a tad afraid of the cats and may have been boxed by one when foster mom was not home.I am looking for my final forever home even with my disabilities I am still a loving dog and I just want love and love furever. Can you be that family? Please check out my album on facebook my whole story is there it's to much to put on here. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-14-00301Vinny (male)
Vinny is a five year old male black and white Shih Tzu. He weighs 18 pounds. He should only go to experienced dog owners and all people in the home need to be over 18 years old. He walks well on leash and loves to play fetch. He is especially fond of his squeaky toys. He loves going for car rides and going for walks and also does good with his foster mommy's current small dog. Vinny is also making progress with his potty training with being let out regularly- now he lays by the back door when he needs to go outside. He also loves to be brushed. His adoption donation is of the adopter's choice. If you are interested in possibly adopting Vinny, please fill out the adoption application found on our website (www.wishbonecaninerescue.org) (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-11-18-00666Rufus (male)
Rufus is a 10 year old shihtzu, puppy mill survivor who needs a loving home willing to work with his emotional scars. He was released from the puppy mill at age 5. He went to live with a family who now had to rehome him. Rufus is emotionally guarded and carries some separation anxiety. He will do well in a home where he has someone around more of the time rather than not. If he is very scared and stressed he will howl a couple times (or more in the day). We are working on desensitizing him on this but may not ever improve. This does dissipate as he acclimates in his environment but will likely never go completely away and his adopter needs to be aware and accepting of this behavior. So he must go to a home rather than an apartment or townhome. He wants to be near his human and prefers to lay by your feet but isn't looking to be a Velcro dog. He does not want much physical handling and will elicit a low growl if he does not want a pet. Rufus seems to prefer men and is quite comfortable with them. Rufus will do well with a patient adopter who will let Rufus come to them on his own terms and be okay with a dog that is likely always somewhat aloof. He is house trained, crate trained, microchipped and neutered. He is current on his vaccinations. He deserves to spend his golden years with love and appreciation. If you think you can offer than to Rufus and be his hero, then please by all means contact us. (Less)

Shih Tzu Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The Shih-Tzu is a toy breed similar to the Pekingese. Shih-Tzus are proud little dogs and loaded with personality. Shih-Tzus are gentle and do fine with children who are taught to respect the dogs. Shih-Tzus bark to announce people approaching their homes. Shih-Tzus need early obedience training and may require patience when housebreaking. A Shih-Tzu will do just fine in an apartment if it gets enough exercise.
