Rescue Me ID: 15-03-21-00242Chewy (Coco) (male)

Shih Tzu Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Blind

Chewy came into our rescue several weeks ago along with Baby Girl. He'd been living in an empty apartment in Waterbury that had no heat, electricity, or water - and shaggy doesn't even begin to describe him! He's now cleaned up, clipped, and looking adorable - and he's also looking for a wonderful long-term foster or forever home. Baby Girl and Chewy are seniors - Baby Girl is 14 and Chewy is 12. They're both blind because of glaucoma. They're used to living with each other, and we want to keep them together. So we'd like to find a wonderful foster or forever family who can welcome them together into their home. Both dogs are great with ... (Read More)other dogs - in fact they gain confidence from other sighted dogs and get around just fine when in their company - and also with children and cats. Baby Girl has one eye that has some fluid building up behind it as a result of the glaucoma and our vet continues to evaluate whether medical intervention is needed. At 14 years old, if he can avoid putting her under anesthesia he'd prefer to do that. Otherwise, these two pups are amazingly healthy and still have a little pep in their step! Let's find Baby Girl and Chewy a totally awesome retirement home! They deserve lots of love and cuddles, and a place to relax and feel safe in their golden years! If they are adopted, we will only consider adopting them as a bonded pair and the adoption fee will be reduced. For more information please email: furryfriendsct@yahoo.com (Less)

Shih Tzu    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

molly is twelve and very sweet and is home all day alone. Ive tried the best I can but she needs a home where someone is there all day who can let her out and walk her and spend time with her. she I work too many hours and am just not there and the only option is to crate her all day which I do not want to do. She likes to climb so leaving her in a pen does not work. She needs a stay at home companion. shes a very sweet little dog who is not getting the attention she deserves.

Animal ID: RDV547PUFF PENDING (male)

Shih Tzu    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

ADOPTION PENDING - Puff Daddy has been with his Northern Foster for a little while now, and was previously with a Southern Foster in Louisiana. Upon his arrival in CT it took him a few weeks to warm up to his northern fosters. He was comfortable observing at first and approaching new situations on his own time. By allowing him to take his time, his northern fosters have created a safe environment where he feels comfortable. Currently, Puff Daddy is very affectionate with his foster mom and dad, and can be picked up by both of them. After his initial arrival he was introduced to each of the foster dog's one at a time and did very well. He ... (Read More)does enjoy playing with other dogs, but sometimes likes to 'fun police' the other dogs by barking at them when they play. This is just part of his personality, and the other dogs are un-phased by this. Due to the weather, he has not been on leash recently, but did well on leash when he was in Louisiana. He has never had an accident in the house and goes outside with the pack. Animal ID: RDV544CHAZ (male)

Shih Tzu Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Update on Chaz -Northern foster: Chaz is full of life and he walked in like he had lived with us forever. He walked in and was ready to welcome the world. Chaz was introduced to each of the foster dog's one at a time. He absolutely loves to run and play in the snow, and has a high energy level. He has no fear and can sometimes come on a little strong, though he means well. A few of the older more dominate dogs in the pack have corrected him. Chaz accepts these corrections. Chaz is now completely housebroken and will go out with the pack or scratch at the door and let you know he needs to relieve himself. Due to the weather he has not been ... (Read More)able to be on leash recently, but has his previous foster said he had done well on leash. He did well in the car on his transport from Louisiana to Connecticut. PIease Read Before Adopting a Shih Tzu in Connecticut
Shih Tzu Dogs can make good pets in Connecticut if they match your IifestyIe. The Shih-Tzu is a toy breed similar to the Pekingese. Shih-Tzus are proud little dogs and loaded with personality. Shih-Tzus are gentle and do fine with children who are taught to respect the dogs. Shih-Tzus bark to announce people approaching their homes. Shih-Tzus need early obedience training and may require patience when housebreaking. A Shih-Tzu will do just fine in an apartment if it gets enough exercise.
