Very sweet girl! Will be 3 in May. Lucy gets along with other dogs, but likes to be Alpha. I personally think she would be great in a home that could devote all of their time to spoiling her. She has some issues with aggressiveness if you get near her when she has atreat. But that is the ONLY time she displays that behavior. Loves to play, snuggle, and go for walks. We aren't able to give her the home she truly needs. Please help us find the perfect forever home for her.

Animal ID: 001361Lantana (female)

Shih Tzu Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Blind

Lantana presently cared for in an foster home in Huntsville, AL. She is fully vetted and available through F.O.R.(Friends of Rescue) BIO: Lantana is a very special, one in a million kind of girl. She has exceeded all expectations. When found at a local shelter she huddled inside a small plastic tub to further isolate herself from her kennel mates, her eyes crusted. Her eyes were treated daily but not often enough to control the mucus build up. In the play yard with other small dogs she would cling to the fence to avoid other dogs. Then her life changed; she was rescued, fostered and diagnosed by an eye specialist. ... (Read More)Lantana had few problems transitioning to her new environment; within days she learned how to navigate rooms and steps. Her sensory memory is remarkable. She will need eye medications 3x's daily for life to control her chronic dry eye syndrome. Lantana has very limited vision but believe she does detect shadows and light. But this doesn't deter her at all. This girl is now fearless! Lantana's temperament is extremely low key, quiet but independent. She enjoys cat-like rough housing with her family, having her tummy ruffled and actively nibbling hands. Toys are not her thing but she adores bones, hooves, antlers and any treat she can chew for longer periods. Tana is a walker and likes to explore outside. She listens so well, when on walks she doesn't need a leash. Although she will venture 20 yards ahead, she always come when called. %BD%BD%BD'%BD%BD%BD|..never know she has a vision impairment. During her stay in this household she has experienced several foster dogs. She has accepted them all. She doesn't actively engage in play, but has tried 'Lantana style'. Tana sits in front of the dog and two-paws relentlessly, reaching out with one paw to try to touch the other dog. The recipient of these actions usually just barks at her in confusion. But that's my little warrior princess! Lantana is non-intrusive and doesn't need constant attention. She is perfectly house trained and so good, rarely needs scolding. Tana could be an only dog or pack, as long as the dogs are her size or smaller. Her ideal home would have her owner there most of the day, so her eye drops could be administered at regular intervals. She may initially not show her loving nature until she has bonded and trusts her new adopter. This girl is an absolute joy to foster. But she also needs a special person to care for her and understand her limitations%BD%BD%BD'%BD%BD%BD|%BD%BD%BD'%BD%BD%BD|which presently, she attempts everything. For more wonderful stories about this remarkable sweetie contact: You may contact her foster mom directly, also asking about Lantana. (Less)
